"Adam Stenftenagel, who works as a HERS rater and green-building consultant, said that the rating system makes sense for clients who have a lot of control over the design of their homes. Those people, he said, will see a return on their green investments, especially as oil prices rise in the future.

"These are the strictest building codes in the country by far, said Adam Stenftenagel, owner of Sustainably Built, a green-building consulting company in Boulder.
And that's not a slight. In fact, as Stenftenagel sees it, anyone considering building a new home would be crazy not to build a zero-energy house.
